I am under the impression an artist, who was based in Maine near Cape Neddick/York/Ogunquit area and possibly Philadelphia as well, was a relative of yours. He was a friend of my stepfather, Ned Hergelroth, an art professor at Temple's Tyler School of Art, who had a home and studio in Cape Neddick; and my aunt, another painter, Florence Cloud (Wyncote, PA). They may have all gone to school together. In 1966, I modeled for him for a series of ballerina paintings/illustrations, as well as a portrait, a wedding gift for Ned and my mother May. I was 10, so forgive a fuzzy memory of details. I have the portrait, which appears to be signed by "Elync" or "Elynt" or something like that. Ring any bells?
There's only you now. Don't let the light go out. I'm 80. Grew up with you three and your music as a real underpinning. Even copied the way you pick and strum and saw you whenever you came to Montreal. Thank you for all of it over all the years.

Hello Noel!!It is with my deepest condolence that I acknowledge the passion of Peter. He was so kind to me during my backstage visit as well as when you both took a photo with me at Ocean Grove, NJ.I want to thank you,Peter, and of course Mary for all the great music and for your compassion to your fans.May God bless you and the spit prof of both Peter and Mary!!!!
Heartfelt condolences on the passing of Peter. May the music you made about love and peace resonate throughout the universe.
Dear Noel…. I have just read the news of Peter’s passing, on Robert de Cormier’s birthday, no less, and weep for the memories of growing up on your trio’s music, of having heard Robert’s stories of working with you over many years, of having sung with the 3 of you in Vermont, then with the two of you. “Paul and” stands alone now. Sending you my heartfelt sympathy, and much light and love.
Condolences--
The last time (and far from the first!) I saw all three of you together was in Portland-- with Marshall Dodge-- at a fundraiser. Great show.
My granddaughter (11) is a huge fan. Must be the DNA
All Best,
Mike
Dear Noel,
My heart goes out to you in Peter's death. My husband Paul and I love and loved you all, through our lives have been grateful for your lives and music. Know that we'll be holding you close, knowing there will be deep comfort and care in your sorrow.
With love,
Cathy Morgan
Hi Noel,
Have had you strongly in mind and heart during this deeply wrenching time in relation to Peters' health and the timeless comradeship you have with him over the years. My small connection with him, although it feels vast and deep, has been a friendship since the 80's. am reminded of one time, it may have been at Carnegie Hall when Peter invited me backstage and there was an in between time, when I found myself spiritually drawn to guitar playing in one of the rooms. For awhile, I didn't know who was playing, I just felt drawn to the music, and so mesmerized that I couldn't move from that spot. At some point later, the door opened and it was clear that that was you. In my entire life, I have neither before nor after the playing, heard playing that was so gentle and spiritually connective.
I don't remember if I ever told you that. It came back to me during this time period. Thank you for all you evoke and bring to light with your music and spirit. It's a beautiful thing to have you in the world!
The happiest of birthday wishes to you, Mr. Stookey and thank you for the music and the life teachings that have both enriched and enlightened my own days in this world. The music and the message of you and Mr. Yarrow gave me both the hope and the strength that helped me make it, day by day, (and sometimes hour by hour,) through the months of sorrow and despair that almost destroyed me after losing my little son to cancer. His name is Jon and I would appreciate it if you could say a little prayer for him, in joy for his pain being over and his deliverance to the loving embrace of the Lord. Thank you, Mr. Stookey. May all blessings be yours and once again, Happy Birthday!
Noel - I have just learned of Peter’s frail condition and working my way through his Living Memorial pages can’t help but marvel at how interwoven and deeply parallel your life’s work has remained all these decades. No surprise actually - but has me reaching your way too with prayers as the world reaches to your brother with life-affirming joyful blessings.
God bless us everyone
I have long followed David Mallett. (I am still stunned by his recent death). WERU is now playing his songs. My favorite memory is from just a few years ago at "The Grand" in Ellsworth. Paul Stookey was there, as he always was. That particular evening, David started singing a song by the Kingston Trio. Paul was onstage with him. Suddenly, Dave looked up at Paul and said, "I can't remember the words!!!." Paul (cool as a cucumber) took out his cell phone and looked up the song. They started singing together.. At the conclusion of the Kingston Trio song, Paul leaned over and kissed David on the top of his head. The audience roared with laughter and appreciation. That was the last time I heard Dave and Paul together at the Grand. I'm so grateful I was there!
I was deeply affected by your early solo musc, and "Wedding Song" was played at my wedding. We are about to celebrate our 50th! I was intrigued by your report under "About>Faith" that when you sang the song at Peter's wedding, that you changed the opening "He" to "I." I'm curious: Did you change the pronouns for the entire first verse? As in:
"I am now to be among you at the calling of your hearts.
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on My part.
The union of your spirits here has caused Me to remain,
for whenever two or more of you are gathered in My name,
there is love, oh there’s love."?
Did you know your are played by Stephen Carter Carlson in A Complete Unknown out next week? Cool.
Listening to PP&M sing "Early in the morning" with the prophetic words: "Lord, help me find the way". I'm thankful He showed you the way to the promised land as He did me a few years after you. Your life and music has been a rock in my life for many decades. Thank you
Hello Noel! My parents were part of the Catholic anti-war movement, and i'm making a podcast about them. A part of the podcast tells the story of the moment during the trial of the Camden 28 when one of the defendants sang "The Great Mandala (The Wheel of Life)" from the witness stand.
Would it ever be possible to obtain the rights to be able to play an instrumental version of the chords on guitar for the score?
It's an incredibly inspiring story and an amazing song.
I hope this finds you extremely well,
Brendan Hughes
We were at Tinder Hearth in October and I told a story about how, about twenty years ago, I was traveling late at night in Iowa listening and scraping through the FM offerings when I stopped on 'Hymn' playing. After it finished, the DJ said, "File this next one under homophones," and then played Rupert Holmes song, "Him"... I laughed all the way to Illinois (and then some). Driving home from Tinder Hearth, through the convenience of Apple, I played those two songs again. I knew you were out there, close-by in Blue Hill. After nearly forty years of teaching in Boston, I moved to Winter Harbor.
Thanks for all the music. You are a wonderful representative of faith. I hope you are able to be on the earth as long as you wish and imagine.
If you ever want some pizza before closing time, I'd be glad to treat...
Hi Paul. My name is Josh Pierce. I met you on two occasions. Once at New Haven Coliseum and the other in Milford, CT. My father was Wade Pierce. My dad and mom introduced me and my brother to Peter, Paul, and Mary early in life. It was wonderful. I'm so proud to say my father was friends with you and all you have done for humanity over the years. As you know, may not know, my dad passed away 21 years ago, but every time I feel sad and think of him I play Peter, Paul, and Mary. Maybe one day you can tell me about Michigan State. My dad never did.
With the utmost respect,
Josh Pierce

Noel, I've seen you twice at Notre Dame, and once more recently in Anchorage. Mary went before shortly after. I swear that a third of the freshmen in my dorm brought guitars, and PP&M were much of the reason. (Well, John, Paul, George and Richard had some influence.) You sighed my Minolta camera case. Anyway, preparing for a grandson's wedding, I took some liberty with the Wedding Song lyrics. Maybe it's no improvement, but maybe ...
V1
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Know your humble troubadour is acting on His part
The union of your spirits has caused him to remain
For wherever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is love. There is love
V2
Well a man shall leave his mother, and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to places where as one they will be known
As it was in the beginning, is now until the end
Woman joins her life to man, love creating life again
There is love. Oh, there is love Bridge
Well then what’s to be the reason for becoming man and wife
Is it love that gives life meaning or love that brings new life
For if love came down from heaven, then whom should we adore
Can you believe in something that you’ve never known before?
Oh, there’s love. There is love
V3 (Hum 1st 2 lines)
The marriage of your spirits has caused him to remain
For wherever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is love. There is love
Thanks for the great music! I was hoping to learn more about the song "Jenny". The only recording I can find is by with the Paul Winter Consort. Is there a story behind the song? Are there any other recordings out there?
